All of my animal drawings are from animals that I have met - and not "drawn
out of my head". At school, art lessons were all about drawing from memory
"Paint something you did in the holidays" I used to dawdle about
and then go home and look at what I wanted to paint.
At the time I thought this was cheating. I think this method of teaching has
put off many people from trying to draw. It was a relief and revelation when
I got to Art College and found we were not only urged but it was required
that we went and looked at whatever we were drawing.
